How to make decaffeinated coffee

Finally, the beans are hot steamed again to remove the remaining solvent.
The indirect-solvent method
Unlike the direct way, the indirect-solvent method has never actually touched the beans. Instead, the unroasted coffee beans are soaked in hot water for several hours to separate the caffeine and most other flavor compounds. Caffeine water is poured into a tank to handle with solvent, usually Methylene chloride, to carefully refine caffeine, leaving only the coffee oils and other characterized compounds. Finally, we take decaffeinated water back into the coffee beans.
The Swiss water method
At first, we soak coffee beans soaked in hot water for several hours like indirect-solvent method. This method does not use any chemical solvents, just only water with the activated carbon filter. The result includes two tanks – a caffeine tank and a tank of coffee oils and characterized compounds.
At this time, the organic coffee beans removed the featured compounds and caffeine are revoked. And the saturated liquid is used for a new process. Because this liquid can only remove caffeine from green coffee beans in the new process and leave the coffee oils and characterized compounds into as the taste and aroma coffee should be. Swiss water method mostly used to decaffeinate organic coffee.
This method is environmentally friendly.
Carbon Dioxide method
Carbon Dioxide method created by Max Planck Institute Kurt Zosel is recently improved to produce the delicious decaf coffee. This process uses liquid of CO2 to regulate and carefully remove caffeine from unroasted coffee beans.
After soaking the beans in a solution of CO2, the solution is drained, transformed into a gaseous state and leaving caffeine. It is different from other methods that featured compounds have never been removed from the beans, and there is no use of toxic chemicals. However, due to high cost, this method is only applied to the big companies.
